This post contains spoilers, so unless you spent the weekend binging Daredevil, turn back.
So, did everyone have a nice weekend? Do anything in particular? Well, if you were like me and a host of other Marvel fans, you probably spent the better part of Friday and Saturday binging on Daredevil season two, and then collapsing in a heap after the physical and emotional beating that you just witnessed. So…when’s season three?
Well, season three has yet to be announced, and if it does happen, it won’t be happening anytime soon, what with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders (not to mention more Jessica Jones) waiting in the wings — but star Charlie Cox already has some ideas about who he wants the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen to battle in the show’s next season.
When talking with Screen Rant about what’s next for Daredevil, Cox (on top of wishing for a Punisher series that pretty much everyone is clamoring for now) expressed his desire for classic villain Bullseye to show up:
If we are fortunate enough to continue making the Daredevil series, I can’t imagine doing a run of Daredevil where Bullseye doesn’t show up at some point. It would be great to have him around at some point. Who would play that part I have no idea but I just think there’s such an interesting, rich character there, and also of course, the history that Bullseye has with Karen Page is an interesting dynamic. When you read the comics it’s etched in a Daredevil memory all that stuff.
Despite being seemingly defeated at the end of season one, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) made an appearance in season two in order to manipulate Frank Castle into killing his prison rivals and vow revenge on Nelson & Murdock, much to the shock and delight of fans. Cox also thinks that there is much more story to be told there, and should Daredevil continue, Fisk should remain an integral part of Hell’s Kitchen.
I’d also like personally, again if we continue to make the Daredevil series, rather than have a new character every season I’d love us to explore more of the Wilson Fisk stuff. It’d be great if at some point Vincent D’Onofrio would come back for a season. There’s so much Daredevil-Wilson Fisk left untold. As he really came into his own, as Wilson Fisk turned into the Kingpin at the end of season one, I’d love to see what that now does to the Daredevil-Fisk dynamic going forward if we were to do a season three or four or whatever.
There is little doubt that Daredevil will continue to be a cornerstone of Marvel’s Netflix block; it’s probably more of a matter of when the next season will come about because there’s clearly more story to be told. Until then, enjoy your re-watches!
