Ohio Governor John Kasich is still hanging around in the race for the Republican nomination for president. Although you have to give Kasich some credit for sticking things out this long when most of the field have dropped out by now, his chances of being the nominee are virtually non-existent. Kasich has a full 600 fewer delegates than Donald Trump and nearly 400 less than Ted Cruz, so he mathematically can’t get enough delegates to earn the nomination and is banking on a brokered convention.
However, Kasich had a trick up his sleeve this whole time that would have assuredly swayed the popular vote in his favor (and no it’s not his slick two-handed jump shot): he wants to make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday.
That’s right, Kasich is smart enough to know that literally nobody does any work the day after the big game due to a hangover, too many nachos, or crippling depression that their team lost/they gambled away all of their savings on prop bets. He wants to give the nation one day of recovery time. Kasich is so sure about this that he even said he would get it done within his first 100 days of being elected.
The governor revealed his position when asked on “The Dan Patrick Show,” and while his declaration will assuredly have him surging up the polls, it may simply be too late. Now, if Kasich were to also say that the first two days of the NCAA Tournament would be days off under his administration, then he might really be able to pull this thing off.
