Watch Flyers Goalie Steve Mason Give Up One Of The Worst Goals You’ll Ever See

Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason let up one of the worst goals you’re ever going to see scored in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday night.

Mason was enjoying a pretty solid night between the pipes against the Washington Capitals through about 25 minutes. He had only given up one goal against the high-powered Caps offense, and was making saves like this in the process:

But then, immediately after that, this happened:

The puck was tipped by Jason Chimera at center ice, but from there it didn’t change direction. It didn’t take a funky bounce. It didn’t hit a divot in the ice. It just went straight through Mason’s five-hole. It’s as inexplicable a goal as you’ll ever see. Chimera and his Caps teammates couldn’t help but laugh at their fortunate tally.

There was some speculation that Mason may have hurt himself on the acrobatic save just prior to the embarrassing goal, but the netminder stayed in the game and didn’t seem to experience any further discomfort. In all likelihood, it was just a really embarrassing mental lapse by Mason, and one that he won’t soon forget…even if opposing fans let him.
