Do we have any Young Adult devotees in the crowd? Congratulations! The 2011 dramedy’s core trio of star Charlize Theron, screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman are aligning forces once again for a new motion picture.
The Hollywood Reporter reports from Hollywood that the indie offering Tully is now a go with financing and co-producing to be done by Bron Studios. The film will see Theron play Marlo, a mother of three that receives the services of a nanny as a gift and eventually forms a bond with the “thoughtful, surprising and sometimes challenging” caregiver. Is the nanny’s name Tully? You know it, dude. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is something all three players have been talking about for a while now.
Reitman and Cody realigning forces might help revive their standing with critics. The pair’s previous projects like Juno and Young Adult scored strong reviews and the occasional Academy Award, but more recent offerings have been crushed in the press. The Reitman helmed films Labor Day and Men, Women & Children were received with all the enthusiasm of a garbage disposal smoothie (the small screen series Casual hasn’t suffered that fate, mind you), while Cody’s output has also taken some shots with Ricki & The Flash receiving a mixed response and the writer’s directorial debut Paradise is in possession of a less-than-scenic 21% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe Tully‘s just the tonic to get critics to dig these two again.
