Budweiser Wants To Call Itself Simply ‘America’ Now

Craft beer may be getting all the glory right now but we all know that watered down beers like Budweiser are the ones that have Americans’ hearts, and are also good enough for beer pong. Now Budweiser wants to replace its own name with just “America” on its new labels. The irony is that Budweiser isn’t even owned by an American company!

Anheuser-Busch InBev is a Belgian company. It’s made liberal use of America-centric marketing in the past, particularly in the summer, by including stars and stripes, and even the Statue of Liberty on its labels. Nothing is more brazen than replacing the Budweiser part of the label with just America, though. Like, whose idea was that? Anheuser-Busch’s U.S. Marketing Vice President remained mum on whether these plans are actually true, but he did say that the brand wants to capitalize on the Olympics (it’s sponsoring the U.S. team) and Fourth of July.

Why summer? VP Jorn Socquet explains the company’s reasoning:

“You have this wave of patriotism that is going to go up and down throughout the summertime,” Mr. Socquet said. “And we found with Budweiser such a beautiful angle to play on that sentiment.”

As long as this doesn’t mean that Budweiser is getting involved in Donald Trump’s campaign, then okay, whatever.
