On Sunday, at the Jehovah’s Witnesses church in Minnetonka, Minnesota where Prince worshipped, there is a memorial service being held in honor of the late musician. It’s just one of many tributes to Prince that has been lined up in the wake of his death. However, despite the fact this particular service is taking place at Prince’s place of worship, his sister wants people to know that this service has nothing to do with Prince’s family, and they are not involved.
Tyka Nelson said in a statement that, “I nor my brother’s remains will be present at any Memorial or Funeral services.” She further elaborated that she is not against any of these memorial tributes to her brother, including the one this weekend, but just wanted it to be clear that, although, this memorial is taking place at Prince’s church, it is not the public tribute to Prince that has been promised.
Nelson says that her family’s memorial for Prince will probably happen in August, and that “We feel inspired to celebrate his life and legacy in just the right way.” Until then, there will probably be a handful of more tributes to Prince, including the one this Sunday, but none of them will have any involvement from Prince’s family.
