If everything goes as planned, I’m going to die of (un)natural(ly cool) causes at the age of 104 in a pile of naked women, surrounded by chocolate fountains and a dedicated army of corgi minions. The corgis will take me to my rocket ship, which will be blast me and my closest friends and family to Mars, where I’ll be laid to rest. During my funeral, everyone will get drunk and Guns N’ Roses’ “Right Next Door to Hell” and Titus Andronicus’ “The Battle of Hampton Roads” will play on a continuous loop for four hours. PARTY OF THE ETERNITY.
But hey, that’s just one’s man humble plans for the inevitable. Some people are more traditional, i.e. boring, and want a sad song for their funeral. According to Co-operative Funeralcare’s chart of the top music played at funerals, via NME, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” are 2012’s most popular DEATH songs. God, way to make not being alive anymore a bummer. The rest of the list is as follows:

NME also notes:
Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ might have been an international chart success, but it’s now entered at number 22 of the funeral music chart…Figures show that pop music has replaced traditional hymns at two-thirds of British funerals. In 2005, hymns accounted for 41% of funeral music requests, but in the past 12 months the figure has fallen to 30%. Only 4% of mourners requested classical music. (Via)
2012 isn’t over yet, though, but we need to get started now if we want the Simon & Simon theme on this list.
