The ads say it loud and clear: You know his name. It’s Jason Bourne and he’s back for his fourth big screen adventure. Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass took some time off from the character after 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum. But both return in this installment, the first Bourne movie since Jeremy Renner appeared poised to take over the franchise in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy.
So far, we know that Damon’s character, now fully aware of his identity, will be attempting to get to the bottom of Iron Hand, a new super assassin program developed by the CIA to clean up the mess he exposed in Treadstone. Julia Stiles, who played his enemy turned ally Nicky Parsons in the first three movies, returns for this one and looks as though she gets to be in on the action via some rapidly edited motorcycle stunts.
Newcomers to the saga include newly-minted Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander in an unknown capacity, though she appears to be in cahoots with another Bourne first-timer Tommy Lee Jones. The venerable Jones plays an intelligence officer in pursuit of Bourne, taking up the mantle of previous Bourne chasers Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, Joan Allen and David Strathairn.
Renner, currently on screen in another of his franchises, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, doesn’t appear to be a part of this episode. We’ll have to wait to see if he makes a surprise appearance until July 29, when Jason Bourne arrives in theaters. Check out the video above for all the info you need.
