Friends Of Pulse Shooting Victim Drew Leinonen Are Asking Disney To Turn Him Into A ‘Star Wars’ Character

Since the horrific Pulse massacre that happened in Orlando three weeks ago, there have been countless vigils and tributes worldwide for the 49 victims who lost their lives that early morning. Now, friends of Drew Leinonen are trying to convince Disney to give the ultimate homage to a person whose life was tragically cut short by turning his likeness into a character in the Star Wars universe.

You probably recognize Drew’s name. Drew and his partner Juan Guerrero were both killed that night at Pulse and were planning on getting married before tragedy struck. Both men were massive Star Wars fans, but especially Drew. The couple even went as Boba Fett and Darth Vader last Halloween. In the petition, Leinonen’s friend, Joshua Yehl calls for the need of an LGBT Star Wars character, stating in the change.org petition:

“Star Wars has never had a gay character appear on screen before, but as The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams recently said on the topic, “The fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.” I can’t put it any better than that. Now is the time to act. Trust your feelings.”

Currently, the petition has 1,800 supporters and needs only 700 more to reach its goal.
