Like it or not, eSports is becoming more and more popular as ESPN continues to cover various video game competitions, both online and on their networks.
For a few years now, ESPN2 has broadcast the likes of Dota 2, League of Legends, and Heroes of the Storm on TV, and now Street Fighter will be next.
According to engadget, The Worldwide Leader will air world championship matches of Street Fighter V on July 17th as a part of the Evo(Evolution Championship Series) event from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The Evo hosts several fighting game championships in addition to Street Fighter, including Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
For non-eSport fanatics, I would have to imagine Street Fighter would be one of the best games to actually watch live, along with sporting games like Madden and Rocket League. While the more complex games like LOL are tough to follow along with if you’ve never played it before, it’s pretty easy to see who is winning a fight between Balrog and M. Bison.
So, if you’re on the fence about giving it a try, this might be a good place to start.
