HBO Now Highlights For August (Including ‘Scarface’ And ‘The Night Of’ Finale)

Summer is still in full swing, meaning that you’re hit by a wall of heat every time you attempt to exit your home. Sure, you could push through and go outside, but why do that when you have air conditioning and the possibility of an Al Pacino marathon? With the addition of Scarface, Carlito’s Way, and The Scent of a Woman, HBO Now is your go-to spot for some classic Pacino magic.

HBO Now is also bringing out some Oscar nominees from last year with Brooklyn and The Danish Girl. And when it comes to original content, August brings the thrilling conclusion to the crime series everyone is talking about, The Night Of, the premiere of Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the LA Rams, and the cerebral Hitchcock/Truffaut.

Here’s what you should be watching on HBO Now this August:

Scarface, 1983 (8/1)

The tale of Tony Montana is considered by many to be one of the greatest (if not the greatest) gangster films of all time. Starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, Scarface is a profane and intense tale of a Cuban drug lord and cemented Brian De Palma’s place as a legendary filmmaker. If you haven’t seen it yet, now is the time to say hello to… you probably know the line, at least. Just watch it.

Brooklyn, 2015 (8/13)

A lovely and quiet film that was a regular on the awards circuit in 2015, Brooklyn is one of those movies that sticks with you long after you watch it. Saoirse Ronan is luminous as the immigrant Eilis Lacey, a woman who is torn between her new life in America and the familiarity of life back home in Ireland. If this one somehow slipped past your radar last fall, do yourself a favor and spend an evening watching the feel-good (in the best way possible) movie of last year.

The Night Of (Limited Series Finale) (8/28)

The Night Of is the spiritual successor to the first season of True Detective, a slow burning and cinematic crime drama. Featuring a strong performance by John Turturro (in a role that was originally intended for the late James Gandolfini), viewers have been glued to their screens through every twist and turn in this murder mystery. Catch up on every episode on HBO Now before the sure-to-be explosive finale on August 28.
