The new trailer for The Cash Money Story: Before Anythang documentary is finally out and comes on the heels of Birdman’s signed label deal with Apple earlier this week. Before Anythang is a Birdman narrated story about the early days before the Cash Money Empire. Interviews include a number of family and friends who speak on Birdman’s home life, parents, and success starting when he was just a 16-year-old. The Cash Money Story: Before Anythang is set to be released exclusively on Apple music this fall.
The documentary should come as welcome news to an entire generation of late 20s to 30-somethings who can remember the early days of Cash Money. The label is responsible for a number of classics and has hands in some of the current generation’s biggest and brightest stars. The label, to date, has sold an astonishing one billion albums which include Juvenile’s 400 Degrees, B.G.’s Choppa City In Da Ghetto, and the Hot Boys’ Guerilla Warfare. Lil Wayne, until recently, spent the entirety of his career on the label where he dropped the first three Carter albums.
Cash Money as a label has seen better days, though. Only two of the original four members of the Hot Boys are still on the label is Turk and Juvenile, who came back into the fold at 2015. B.G. and Mannie Fresh left the label over financial reasons. Lil Wayne left for the same reason and has been yelling profane things about Birdman for a good while now. While it’s clear there’s no hope of reconciliation, it will likely still be a boon to fans who remember the halcyon days of the label’s peak.
