Even if you’re not a college football fan, you are probably aware of the path that led to Lane Kiffin becoming the offensive coordinator at Alabama. Kiffin had a few head coaching jobs but never stuck at any of them, with his most notable stop coming at USC. His tenure at the helm of the Trojans came to an unceremonious end after leading the team to a 28-15 record in a little more than three years, which isn’t necessarily bad, but at a school like USC, that won’t cut it.
Kiffin’s USC career ended after the Trojans lost to Arizona State in 2013, 62-41. The circumstances of his firing made headlines, because Kiffin was pulled off of the team bus at Los Angeles International Airport by the school’s athletic director, led into a room inside the terminal, and was told that he was out of a job. This all happened after the team made it back from the whooping at the hands of the Sun Devils, so all of this went down after 3 a.m.
Fast forward to Saturday, and Kiffin got his revenge against USC in a big way. Alabama beat the hell out of the Trojans, 52-6. It was a comprehensive beatdown, as the Crimson Tide put up 465 yards of total offense on the 20th-ranked team in America. While it probably felt really good for everyone on Alabama’s sideline, considering how his tenure in Southern California ended, it probably felt especially great for Kiffin.
After the game, he made it a point to play nice, and he even showed love to plenty of the Trojans’ players and staff members. But on Sunday, he couldn’t help but take a little shot at his former employer, as he tweeted out a picture of his son with the game ball and included a hashtag with the time that he got axed and the place where it happened back in 2013.
There are plenty of reasons for people to dislike Lane Kiffin, but even his most ardent hater has to admit that this one was good. Kiffin may have the most entertaining Twitter account in all of college football because, at a moment’s notice, he can drop hot fire like this.
