Nick Saban Was Furious And Extremely Disappointed After Alabama Won By A Lot Of Points

Here is a list of things that Alabama did to Western Kentucky on Saturday.

  • Won 38-10
  • Scored at least one touchdown in every quarter
  • Put up 475 yards of total offense
  • Held Western Kentucky, one of the most explosive non-Power 5 schools in America, to 239 yards of total offense
  • Forced a pair of turnovers
  • Again, won by 28 points in Week 2, moved to 2-0 on the season, and did nothing to make anyone think that this isn’t the best team in the country

All seems pretty good, right? Well as it turns out, for Nick Saban, this was awful. Sure, there were some things that the Crimson Tide didn’t do too well – the running game averaged 3.2 yards per carry and the team was penalized 12 times for 84 yards – but still, it seemed like a good performance for most.

But for Saban, this wasn’t good enough. Towards the end of the game, Alabama’s head coach thought it would be useful to completely ream out offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin for some reason. According to Saban, this conversation was pretty one-sided.

Additionally, Saban expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance, telling reporters after the game that even though the Crimson Tide won, he felt disappointed.

“I don’t know that I’ve ever been this disappointed after winning a game, maybe ever,” he said. “We have lots of work to do. We’re going to play a lot better teams. I didn’t think we practiced very well this week. I didn’t think we prepared very well for this game. I don’t think we respected the team we played. Like I said before, when you’re arrogant, it makes you complacent. It creates a blatant disregard for doing things right. If we don’t start doing things right, we’re not going to have the kind of success that we’re capable of.”

So, basically, Alabama won by 28 but Nick Saban was angry because he thought they were getting kind of arrogant. You can question him because the Crimson Tide put up huge numbers, but Saban’s one of the best coaches ever, so even though this is a little weird he’s probably onto something.
