A Call Center Employee Is Our New Hero After Going Above And Beyond For A Heartbroken Woman

Heroes typically tend to fall into one of two categories: there are the more classic type of heroes like Renita Smith, whose courageous and unflinching actions resulted in actual lives being saved, and then there are heroes like TONYA KYY905, a Capital One call center employee whose recent act of incredible generosity has gone viral and earned her “Hero of the Day” status on websites and message boards across the internet.

The story goes like this: Christina Grady was just looking to put the pieces of her life back together after being dumped by her fiancé, and was in the process of ordering some furniture for her new place when her credit card was suddenly shut down due to “suspicious activity.” When Christina called up her local Capital One customer support representative to explain her situation, she was greeted by an employee known as TONYA KYY905, who proceeded to give her 4,500 free miles to help ease the pain of heartbreak.

An elated Christina then took to Facebook to thank Tonya for her kindhearted gesture.

“OMG, best story ever… My Capital One card got shut off for suspicious activity when I started to send furniture to a new address. I called and explained to this awesome woman, Tonya that my fiancé had broken up with me and I’d moved. She was like, ‘Girl, I am giving you 4,500 free miles. Go on vacation. Take so many pictures of yourself all happy and post them all over that Instagram.'”

All told, 4,500 free miles doesn’t exactly amount to all that much money (around $45), but then, TonyaKYY905 went one step further and sent a damn bouquet of flowers to Christina’s ex’s place.

“5 days later, my ex texts, ‘Someone sent you flowers to my house,'” continued Christina. “‘Who would be so bold?’ I think. He let me pick them up while he was at work. I open the card, TONYA KYY905 Capital One!!! She sent me flowers! To my ex fiancé’s house in a sealed card!!!!!!

“Read the card: ‘I’m glad we had the chance to speak recently. Please know that you are in my thoughts and I hope that these can brighten your day. Best wishes, Tonya, KYY905.'”

In a follow-up interview with Cosmo, Christina explained that she would be using the miles to take the trip to Belize that she had already planned with her fiancé, but would now be bringing along a group of friends in his place.

Before I thought everyone would baby me, now I think … All my friends are already going. I worried it would be a pity trip. [But] now I’m going to go, put on my wedding dress and take pictures of me ‘marrying’ pizza! I’m going to think about Tonya and how she taught me to be an independent woman.

The moral of the story? We should all try to be a little more like TonyaKYY905 in our daily lives, especially if we happen to work in the vitriolic hellscape that is customer service. Now if only we could get this Tanya lady a job at Comcast…
