Mary J. Blige Sits Hillary Clinton Down For A Real Conversation About Race

Apple Music keenly waited until the night of the strangest presidential debate ever to announce a doozy they’ve clearly had tucked in their vault for some time. As the debate ended Apple took to Twitter to announce The 411 With Mary J. Blige, an interview special where Mary will have an “intimate conversation” with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. That idea in and of itself doesn’t seem so bad, but the one-minute trailer for the special quickly devolves into laughable territory.

The topics on hand are, of course, no laughing matter, but the sit down will apparently feature Mary singing at least one question to Hillary as she stares into the distance awkwardly. If Apple wanted to go viral they’ve succeeded, but probably for all the wrong reasons. “If an officer stops you,” she sings to Clinton. “Always be polite, and never ever run away. Promise momma you’ll keep your hands inside. Is it a gun? Is it a knife? Is it a wallet? This is your life. It ain’t no secret. It ain’t no secret, no secret my friend. You can get killed just for living in your American skin.”

Again, the message is perfectly fine, why she decided to sing it to the former Secretary of State is anybody’s guess but Twitter was clearly amused:

The interview ends with Mary asking Clinton “I just want to know, where do we go from here?” so thankfully Mary isn’t singing the entire interview. The 411 With Mary J. Blige featuring Hillary Clinton will debut on Apple Music on Friday, September 30th.
