Josh Gordon is headed to rehab. The Cleveland Browns’ talented but troubled wide receiver decided to enroll himself in a rehab facility on Thursday, according to a statement released by Gordon and the team.

Gordon has only played in five games since being named a first-team All-Pro in 2013. All five of those games came in 2014, a season which was cut short due to suspension. He was suspended for all of the 2015 season and scheduled to miss the first four games of the 2016 season after being reinstated by the league in July. Prior to his decision to enroll in a rehab facility, Gordon was slated to appear in his first game of the year during the Browns’ Week 5 matchup with the New England Patriots.
Instead, Gordon has decided to put his health and wellbeing over his football career. He tweeted after this news dropped that he has recently been under pressure and stress, and that he plans on returning to football soon.

However, several league insiders stated that Gordon’s return to the NFL will have to be with a team other than the Browns. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport claims that Gordon’s future with the Browns is “seriously in doubt,” while Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com said “With all the chances the Browns have given him, his career in Cleveland is likely now over.”
If Gordon can come out of rehab healthy and focused on football, he has the potential to be one of the most devastating wide receivers in the NFL. Here’s hoping that he’s able to do just that.
