We recently received some promotional images for the film Army of One, which stars everyone’s favorite dinosaur skull owner Nicolas Cage as a man on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Included was the above image of Cage riding a donkey, and it quickly became one of our all-time favorite movie stills. We didn’t even need context, we just loved the idea of a movie that features Cage riding around on a donkey.
But then we read the film’s plot synopsis, and this sounds like one of those truly insane Cage roles that we all love:
Gary Faulkner (Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Russell Brand) telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, Gary travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA – and even God and Osama themselves.
As you can see in the trailer below, Cage is all-in on this mission from God. He’s got a voice, the beard, and a sword. And, of course, he’s riding a donkey. Army of One might feature one of Cage’s all-time zaniest roles, and we can see for ourselves when it’s released on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 15.
