Nick Diaz Has Harsh Words For Conor McGregor: “He Isn’t Great”

The rivalry between Conor McGregor and the Diaz brothers lives on. Conor and Nate split their two fight series 1-1, and with no trilogy fight in the near future it seems we’re going to have to take things into the realm of spoken word for a while. In this instance it’s Nate’s big brother Nick doing the trash talking, asking what exactly McGregor has done to be considered a great fighter.

“He’s not [great], though,” Diaz said in a recent video interview (as transcribed by BJPenn.com). “On paper, he’s not. To me? Who are the f*cking 145-pound fighters who he beat up? Nobody good, in my opinion. Nobody good. Just a lot of commercials and advertising. How many blackbelts has he tapped out? When he was talking sh*t back-and-forth about fighting Floyd Mayweather … like, you have already lost to two guys who are not on a legitimate level. That just tells me, look, you ain’t ever going to be the best.”

“You already lost to two f*cking guineas,” he continued, and I guess that’s not a super racist thing to say maybe because his brother Nate is one of the people he’s referring to? Anyways. “I ain’t ever losing to somebody who lost to some f*cking little Irish land guineas. That’s fact, that’s on paper. And on gym, you can see what kind of work he has put in. He ain’t working with nobody — he ain’t working with no black belts. He has no legitimate sparring. Has no legitimate trainer.”

That’s a classic knock on Conor that he hears a lot from jiu jitsu and boxing folks — that he’s not working with any legit names in either realm, so he must not be legit. Conor himself threw shade back on those arguments leading up to his second fight with Nate Diaz.

“I’ve got the boxing community saying I can’t box,” he said. And then I say okay, let’s fight. ‘Well, you can’t kick or elbow or grapple. So long as you can’t do that, we box your ass up.’ Okay, then. Then I got the grappling community saying I can’t grapple. So I’ll say okay, let’s fight. And then the grappling community is like ‘Well you can’t box or kick. So long as you can’t do that, then we grapple your ass up.’”

“All these people saying I can’t do this and I can’t do that. Well then let’s fight then, and all of a sudden they need these rules, they need to bring in rules to protect them. I don’t need no rules to protect me, I can fight any way. So that’s my thoughts on that.”

Perhaps Nick and Conor need to sort this out in the cage? It would be another hell of a jump up in weight for the former featherweight fighter from Ireland, though. Nick Diaz is a 170 pound figher whose last fight was contested at 185 pounds. But if Nick wants to talk crap on YouTube, we’re sure Conor would be happy to return the favor soon enough. And maybe that’s what needs to happen to make sure we eventually see a third fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor.
