Find me someone who played middle school basketball in 2002, and I’ll show you someone who warmed up to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” The song’s urgency lends itself perfectly to hyping yourself up for The Big Game, even if The Big Game ended in a 20-20 tie because, c’mon, these buses ain’t gonna drive themselves home.
Even without its unrelenting beat, “Lose Yourself” still sounds do-or-die, as proved by NetMusic, which laid the song bare, with only Em’s adrenaline-heightened vocals left. Can’t lose that Mekhi Phifer line.
