The legacy of Christopher Columbus seems to get torn down more every year, with many rightfully asking why we continue to honor a man who enslaved, raped, and murdered the natives of the land he “discovered” (when he and his men weren’t hunting them for sport). But if this segment from Jimmy Kimmel is any indication, we shouldn’t be worried about people celebrating a false mythology of Columbus — because they don’t even know the dumbed-down, glossed over version of his story.
Kimmel sent a correspondent onto the street to quiz pedestrians about the tale of Christopher Columbus, and it went… badly. Let’s just say they struggled to come up with his last name, and weren’t surprised to hear he landed his ships in the middle of Ohio.
