Common’s making the most out of his big lead single, “Black America Again,” by putting together a new remix featuring Gucci Mane and Pusha T. The unlikely trio actually ties together the track very well as both Gucci and Push add their respective perspectives to Com’s original tale highlighting the state of black America.
Guwop kicks things off by further examining the full change he’s experienced since going to prison and being released earlier this year. He rhymes, “Woke up in prison cell and I had a revelation, that my life’s a testimony, I could be an inspiration,” showcasing a different, more serious side to himself as more complex man and artist than his usual tales from the trap. Cut from a similar cloth as Gucci, Pusha Ton’s verse also adds a bit of wisdom earned from the streets to the track as well as a reflection of the change he’s been going through personally. Instead of his usual boasts about dope, his rhymes align with his new political frame of mind: “I confess, I’m part of the problem, As of late, I’m trying to solve them.”
For his part, Common adds in a fresh verse and BJ The Chicago Kid helms the hook, replacing Stevie Wonder, who was on the original version.
