Former Colorado Buffaloes running back Rashaan Salaam was found dead in a Boulder, Colorado park on Tuesday. He was 42 years old. Police have said there was no foul play, and a cause of death has not be released, though early indications point to it possibly being a suicide.

“The Buff Family has lost an outstanding young man and a great Buff today,” Colorado Athletic Director Rick George said in a statement. “We are heartbroken for Rashaan and his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.”

Salaam won the Heisman Trophy in 1994 and played three of his four NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears. His last season was with the Cleveland Browns in 1999, as his NFL career ended at the age of 25. He was a member of the XFL’s Memphis Maniax in 2001.
