The Star Wars Celebration had some sad news for fans of the animated series Rebels — the show will be ending after these final 15 episodes of the 4th season. The big question is: how is it going to end?

Showrunner Dave Filoni, who was behind the Clone Wars animated series and will continue to work on future Star Wars projects said at the Rebels panel at Star Wars Celebration 2017 that Rebels season 4 “will be the complete journey that it was meant to be from the very beginning.”

It’s great to know that these characters had a fully-fleshed arc before the series started, but where will they all end up — like Jyn Erso and the rest of the obliterated cast of characters in Rogue One? We know the ship featured in Rebels, Ghost, was in Rogue One, but could they be retconned into the original trilogy? Where do they go after they make their way to Yavin 4 and join the attack for the Death Star plans on Scarif?

Filoni continued:

“We all felt that the time was right, and that the characters were at a point where their story, and their destinies, should finally be revealed.”

Are their destinies just to die?

“I think it’s one of the best things the animation division has ever done. It’s not like anything else that we’ve ever done. It’s gonna be different, a little dark, a little fun.”

Unlike anything any Disney animated series has ever done sounds like he’s saying everyone’s about to get melted by lasers or something. We know that Rebels isn’t afraid of adding some major plot points to the Star Wars mythos, so perhaps the end will shape the future?
