Ja Rule Shifts The Blame For The Fyre Festival In A Weak Apology

After getting flamed all day long over social media for the fiasco that was the “luxury” event Fyre Festival, which took place in the Bahamas yesterday, rapper Ja Rule finally broke his silence to offer an apology, but with some interesting caveats. “I truly apologize as this was not my fault,” he wrote in a statement. “I don’t know how everything went so left, but I’m working to make it right by making sure everyone is refunded.”

Ja wasn’t the only entity stepping out today to try and wash their hands of the disaster that’s been the talk of social media all day long. The organizers themselves shared a statement cancelling the event while explaining that, “Fyre Festival set out to provide a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience on the islands of Exuma. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we must postpone this experience. We are working tirelessly to ensure each guest leaves the island safely and ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation as we continue to provide ongoing updates via email and our official social media channels as they become available, including refund information.”

What was supposed to be a mega-opulent vacation for some deep-pocketed music fans who only wanted to sit on the beach and hear Migos and Blink 182, turned into a scene out of a refugee camp, with trash strewn everywhere, cheap tents set up for lodging, and cheese sandwiches doled out for dinner.

Maybe Ja will show some more contrition in the full statement he’s promised. Or maybe he’ll start pointing fingers. Either way, should be interesting.
