The Mountain Between Us sounds like the name of a Nicholas Sparks novel about a young couple almost getting a divorce before realizing love is the real mountain and [movie trailer voice] sometimes you have to scale it. But it’s actually the name of an upcoming film starring Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. Based on Charles Martin’s novel of the same name, the disaster-drama has the Golden Globe winners playing two strangers who are forced to survive the harsh wilderness together after their plane crash-lands on a mountain.
Also, there’s A Good Dog.
You won’t hear Winslet make a big deal about the freezing conditions The Mountain Between Us was shot in, unlike her Titanic co-star. But according to director Hany Abu-Assad (Oscar-nominated Paradise Now and Omar), “Every day we had the call sheet with five different scenarios in every possible weather.” He added that it was so cold, “you can’t talk… When you close [your eyes], because there’s water, you can’t open them sometimes.” Meanwhile, all Elba had to do was use his real voice, and the temperature suddenly got hot.
Here’s the official synopsis.

When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible.
