Derrick Rose still has not officially decided if he will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it appears that his decision is growing near. Cleveland.com reported Saturday that Rose has had “positive” contact with the organization and an update on his status is coming on Sunday.
Tyronn Lue was asked about Rose on Saturday and gave a brief but positive update about the guard, who left the team before Thanksgiving and is reevaluating his future.
Lue confirmed he had spoken to Rose but was clearly reticent about what exactly the conversation was about and what he intends to do.
“Yes,” Lue said when asked if he had talked to Rose before adding “I’m not saying anything.”
Lue didn’t add much other than that the media will know more “when you talk to Koby,” which means general manager Koby Altman will give us an update soon.
Rose has a huge monetary incentive to come back and play, and there’s also the fact that things appear to be getting better in Cleveland these days. LeBron James is playing some of the best basketball of his career and the Cavs look like the title contender everyone expected they would be this year.
But the decision seems to be more about Rose’s desire to play and his health, not whether Cleveland is a good team or not. Only Rose knows the truth about how he feels, though, at least until he and the Cavs decide to let us know what he’s doing.
