The Golden State Warriors lost a major piece to their roster during the 2019 offseason when Kevin Durant left to join the Brooklyn Nets. The potential existed for the 2020 offseason to see a similar major loss in free agency, but according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, that will not be the case.

Wojnarowski brings word that Draymond Green, who was slated to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of this season, agreed to a four-year max contract extension with the Dubs that will pay him $100 million.

It’s a monster deal for Green, who has played his entire professional career for Golden State. Wojnarowski broke down the financials behind the move, too, with Green’s salary going up in each of the four years that he’s on this deal. Plus, in a bit of news that does not surprise anyone, this means the Warriors will have a whole lot of cash dedicated to their four All-Stars: Green, Steph Curry, D’Angelo Russell, and Klay Thompson.

There are plenty of questions about how Green, who turns 30 in March, will age, but it makes all the sense in the world that the Dubs would want to keep him around long-term. Green is the lynchpin of their defense and gives them valuable creativity on offense. To put it simply, it’s really hard to imagine Green playing basketball for any other team, and this deal shows that both the player and the team agree.
