Tonight’s Friday Night Smackdown premiere on Fox is shaping to be a really big deal, with a new set, a new announce team, and of course appearances from WWE Superstars of the past, including Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson. We don’t know yet what the Rock is going to do on the show, but Smackdown regular Randy Orton wasted no time in attempting to set up an angle, although only time will tell if it’s the one WWE is going to run with.
On Twitter last night, Orton posted a challenge to the Rock, suggesting they “have a discussion about whoβs the greatest 3rd generation of all time and we answer that question April 5th in Tampa At Wrestlemania 36.” That’s pretty direct.
.@TheRock I see you will be at #SmackdownOnFox this Friday. How about you & I have a discussion about whoβs the greatest 3rd generation of all time and we answer that question April 5th in Tampa At Wrestlemania 36. A vipers sense of smell is unmatched. I smell what youβre cooking

Orton is right that he and the Rock are two of the most successful third-generation pro wrestlers. Orton’s grandfather was Bob Orton Sr, and of course his dad was Cowboy Bob Orton. Dwayne Johnson is the son of NWA Champion Rocky Johnson, and the grandson (on his mother’s side) of Peter Maivia.
This could just be Randy Orton messing around on Twitter, but if the Rock is up for it (and able to with his film career), it could also be a match WWE would be pretty excited about for next year’s WrestleMania. Or as Bully Ray put it:
