Millennials don’t share all the same traits since, like any other generational group, theirs is a diverse collection of hipsters, taste-makers, and young professionals. Yet they all share the same affable (albeit fictional) mentor: Harry Potter‘s Hagrid, brought to life onscreen by actor Robbie Coltrane. So imagine the collective panic of young adults everywhere when they learned of Coltrane’s hospitalization today:
The actor, best known for his role as Rubeus Hagrid in the film adaptation of J.K Rowling’s books, fell ill during a British Airways flight from London to Orlando and was rushed to a nearby hospital on his arrival.
Coltrane, 64, was on his way to a Harry Potter convention with co-star Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore, according to the gossip website TMZ. Orlando is home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, which opened last year.
He will remain in hospital overnight for treatment. (Via Telegraph)
TMZ‘s original report also suggests Coltrane may have been drinking heavily before his flight departed from London. Whatever the case, here’s to hoping the 64-year-old actor recovers soon.
Also, on a lighter note of TIL — since when have people started hosting Harry Potter-themed conventions? And why haven’t the organizers sufficiently advertised these gatherings? Now I have to try and find my college Quidditch Club gear in basement storage.
