If you missed it, the Robertson clan has a musical based on their life story and Duck Dynasty that’s lighting the stage on fire in Las Vegas. Duck Commander: The Musical is based on the life of Phil Robertson and company, telling the rags to riches story behind their duck call empire and the trials they seem to face daily.
Now that it is a reality, many are stopping in to see the show. This is what brought Fox 411 to Sin City, where they ran into Willie Robertson. He admitted the show was emotional at times, but it tells the true story behind their rise to glory while living the American dream:
“It’s emotional at times,” Willie said. “I was crying watching it because you just think about if something were to happen differently, then none of this would have happened.”
Willie said he thinks the musical might be even more revealing than the TV show because it gives fans a look into the Robertson’s private struggles.
How do they make this story come to life? Well they don’t force the actors and actresses involved to grow out their locks and beard. Instead they opt to go the fake beard route to truly capture that Robertson feel:
The stars of the show go through a physical transformation with custom wigs, beards and makeup—complete with Korie and Willie’s wedding finger tattoos.
“I don’t have the long hair. I don’t have the beard. I don’t have the tattoos and it’s incredibly helpful,” said lead actor Ben Thompson, who plays Willie Robertson.
Ben said he can’t help but become Willie once his costume his complete.
“The dialect starts coming out and then that red, white and blue bandanna goes on and all of a sudden I’m walking like Willie, I’m standing like him a little more often,” Ben said. (via)
All we need now is a Robertson in The White House and we’ll have a complete Duck Commander saturation on society. There’s almost a Duck Dynasty or Duck Commander theme for any product you can think about. I’ve given up and now bow down to my bearded overlords.
