After just five episodes on the air, WEtv has pulled Sex Box from from airing future episodes. According to Variety, the series might get reformatted and return to the network:
“Sex Box was a bold programming swing that broke new ground but did not connect with large numbers of viewers,” the cabler said in a statement.
“We are working with our production partners on a potential reformatted version of the show and are thankful for the efforts of everyone involved,” the statement continued.
Sex Box comes from Relativity Television and is based on the U.K. talk show of the same name. We previously watched an episode of the program that’s basically about real couples having sex in a soundproof box and reported back on what we saw. It was an interesting experience.
The series was supposed to be a new take on unscripted relationship shows, but only brought in 378,000 viewers in its first four episodes — according to The Hollywood Reporter — prompting its fifth and final episode to be moved from prime time to ultimately die during its new midnight time slot.
