The Bernie Sanders And Koch Brothers Twitter Accounts Trade ‘Star Wars’ Jabs On Halloween

Be it wrestlers or television actors, Halloween is rife with celebrities posting pictures and videos of their Halloween costumes online. These social media darlings often go viral with their hilarious or horrifying getups, but at the end of the day, they really have no bearing on the everyday lives of the lay people who like, retweet, or share them. Unless said celebrities happen to be one half of two of the most famous conservative billionaires in the United States, and the progressive American senator whose political platform often targets such examples of opulent wealth.

This includes Charles Koch, of “Koch Brothers” and Koch Industries fame, and Bernie Sanders, who campaigned for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination before conceding to Hillary Clinton. After a 2015 interview for NPR’s Marketplace in which host Kai Ryssdal called Koch “pretty much Darth Vader,” the renowned Republican donor donned an appropriate costume to the office for Halloween. In the hopes of repeating the initial incident’s viral success, the official Koch Industries Twitter account reposted one of the photos on Halloween day:

Without missing a beat, the Sanders social media team edited an image of the Vermont senator giving a speech on the campaign trail. Instead of gesturing, the former candidate was given Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker’s green lightsaber from Return of the Jedi:

“Our great nation can no longer be hijacked by right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers,” the tweet exclaimed.

Needless to say, both the individual tweets and their brief exchange incurred plenty of replies from elsewhere. Some were congenial to the Koch Industries tweet’s benign charm:
