Hot mics tend to catch scandalous or salacious thoughts by the wearer, blissfully oblivious that he or she is still being broadcast. We’ve seen this in recent cases, such as when Geraldo Rivera did not sugar coat his feelings on Bernie Sanders or when Chris Matthews creeped out to Melania Trump.
This was not exactly the case for British Prime Minister David Cameron, who in the wake of the Brexit fiasco announced his resignation date on Monday. Noted “Remainer” Theresa May is all set to succeed him. “Wednesday I will attend the house commons for prime minister’s questions,” he told reporters outside of 10 Downing Street, “and then after that, I expect to go to the palace and offer my resignation, so we’ll have a new prime minister in that building behind me by Wednesday evening.”
The mild-mannered Cameron then thanked reporters and turned to walk back to the prime minister’s residence, where his mic caught a DISCERNIBLE humming: “doo doooo, doo doo.”
Suffice to say, Brits noticed it, and reacted accordingly on Twitter. Many compared Cameron’s humming to Winnie the Pooh or the West Wing theme song (which I don’t really see), or attempted to theorize what else he may have been humming.

Was Cameron a violinist on the Titanic in a previous life? I would love to know what tune he was humming as he walked back to Number Ten.

I love the idea David Cameron was humming The West Wing theme. Let's just all pretend that's true. https://t.co/17YRJGqMOd

Others had fun remixing the doo doos, and one composer even set it to musical composition.
I spent yesterday evening remixing David Cameron. I'm very proud… #cameron #humming pic.twitter.com/WIMDU4zyjx

Perhaps even better yet, someone else got the idea to add Cameron’s hum to other famous speeches.
Because every great speech gets better when you add the Cameron hum to it… pic.twitter.com/pxuj7jEWT7
