If you’ve followed David Cross’ career over the last 15 years, you know the Mr. Show/Arrested Development star doesn’t shy from politics when he’s on stage, particularly during the George W. Bush years (he called him the worst president ever in 2002).
While he’s remained outspoken on a number of political subjects (he blew a tiny bit of cocaine at the 2009 White House Correspondents’ Dinner which is peak politics), things have been pretty quiet during the Obama administration. Now that Trump is angling for a seat behind the desk in the Oval Office, however, Cross is back like a comedic superhero, ready to take on the strangely-coiffed presidential nominee.
So on August 5, the Cross-signal goes up with Netflix playing host to what will probably be his most charged performance to date in Making America Great Again! Typically, comedians get a little less edgy as the years go on (unless you’re George Carlin), but Donald Trump has done something other than kill satire — he’s lit fires under everyone with a microphone.
If David Cross can rant without equal about G.W. in 2002, imagine how he’ll skewer Donald Trump in 2016? And will the Donald try to claim ownership of the whole making America great phrase? Are we going to see another strongly-worded letter???
