On Wednesday, Donald Trump spoke at a church in Flint, Michigan in hopes of appealing to black voters, but things got a bit awkward. Once he began his usual routine of condemning Hillary Clinton, the church’s pastor, Rev. Faith Green Timmons, interjected to stop him from attacking her: “Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for what we’ve done in Flint, not give a political speech.”
Never one to be upstaged, Trump called into Fox and Friends for his near daily stint and addressed Rev. Timmons. He told the Fox News panel that “something was up” and believed her interruption was due to her being apprehensive, saying “she was a nervous mess, and so I figured something — I figured something was up, really.” The Fox and Friends hosts wondered if the whole situation was an elaborate trap, but that may be stretching it a bit.
The Republican presidential nominee went on to say the interruption didn’t bother him, saying “everyone plays their games.” Timmons wrote in a Facebook post, that has since been deleted, her goal was to show people there are hard working people in Flint:
“I wanted him to see intelligent people, loving people, caring people, who have done well with the resources that they had and I wanted to present the best I could to someone coming in from out of town, it happened to be Donald Trump.”
It was an awkward moment, to say the least, and from his own comments on Thursday, Trump didn’t seem too pleased about being interrupted.
