It’s almost convention time! The Democratic National Convention that is, which gives us an excuse to continue speculating about who Hillary Clinton will pick to be her running mate in this election. We’ve already picked ten Democrats that Clinton should consider as vice president, but let’s dig a little deeper.
The top pick is Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, who is popular with the grassroots activists who supported Bernie Sanders during primary season. What we know, though, is that Wall Street doesn’t want Clinton to pick Warren, because they think that she’s too much to the left. Clinton is said to have strong Wall Street ties herself. On the other hand, Warren knows how to attack Clinton’s opponent, Donald Trump.
Another possible pick is Tim Kane, who used to be governor of Virginia, but is now a senator representing that same state. He was also the first person to deliver a speech in Spanish on the Senate floor. Then there’s New Jersey senator Cory Booker, who is popular and progressive, and would be the first African-American vice presidential nominee for a major party. And last but not least, Clinton could pick Julian Castro, who was once the mayor of San Antonio, Texas, and is now in the Obama administration as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Castro could help get the ever-important Latino vote, a demographic that Trump has done his best to alienate.
So many choices! We’ll find out for sure at the DNC, which starts July 25.
