When it comes to celebrities running for political office, there’s really no shortage. The current president-elect is one of the biggest celebrities out there, Ronald Reagan was a film superstar in his day before becoming governor of California and then president and countless others have run and won seats in Congress over the years. For every Shirley Temple, there’s an Al Franken waiting to happen.
With all the crap Chris Christie has put up with, someone has to come in and take his spot in the next election. That person just might be our next celebrity politician if Joe Piscopo has anything to say about it. The former SNL cast member and Chuck Norris nemesis is tossing his name into the ring as a possible Republican candidate for the seat in New Jersey according to The Guardian:
“I’m seriously looking at it,” he said, promising to make a decision by January. “I love the people. I love the state. I know what has to be done.”
Who inspired Piscopo to think about running for public office? Well, I think you all know who:
“When I saw Mr. Trump in Tampa and he invited me to speak, I saw it was contagious,” Piscopo said. “It was the movement. It wasn’t the machine.”
Look if Donald Trump can win the presidency on promises of “making America great again” and tossing out immigrants, Joe Piscopo can likely win based on a few Frank Sinatra impressions alone. Who knows? It’s likely going to make people in New Jersey feel better than with Chris Christie.
