Trump congratulates Newt Gingrich on “amazing interview” after epic clash with Megyn Kelly https://t.co/7VJ8dcd34L https://t.co/P40PvqhTfv

While speaking at the grand opening of his new hotel in Washington, D.C., Donald Trump praised supporter and surrogate Newt Gingrich for his appearance on Fox News personality Megyn Kelly’s show on Tuesday. During a heated exchange on The Kelly File, the former House Speaker accused Kelly and her staff of preferring to cover allegations of sexual harassment against Trump instead of newsworthy items about public policy. (That, and former president Bill Clinton’s past extramarital indiscretions.) The segment ended with Kelly advising Gingrich to seek help for his apparent “anger issues” and him childishly telling her to do likewise.
Kelly and Gingrich’s conversation didn’t amount to anything productive, per se, but it attracted a lot of eyeballs on television and social media Tuesday night. Hence Trump’s congratulating Gingrich for his “amazing interview” during Wednesday’s supposedly non-political press conference. “We don’t play games, Newt, right? We don’t play games.”
According to the Washington Post, Trump’s offhand reference to Gingrich’s interview with Kelly came on the heels of an alleged threat against the latter made by a senior aide. Dan Scavino, who serves as the Trump campaign’s director of social media, tweeted Kelly “made a total fool out of herself” while attacking Trump and Gingrich on her program, adding: “Watch what happens to her after this election is over.”
