The Clippers-Rockets game on ABC today was a slug-fest almost from the opening tip, and things got testy once again in the fourth quarter after Corey Brewer rose up for a breakaway poster dunk on Blake Griffin that ended with a brief shoving match and double technicals. Cooler heads would prevail, however.
Things got chippy earlier in the game when Matt Barnes did his usual Matt-Barnes-thing and hit James Harden with a hard foul on a drive into the lane. He earned himself a Flagrant 1 for his troubles, which was the right call given that the Beard is so deadly when finishing around the rim after drawing contact and the fact that Barnes was simply trying to prevent the and-one call (with a little extra mustard on the end, admittedly).
The Rockets would go onto to eek out a 100-98 win, with Harden’s 34 points leading the way. Griffin, after missing the last 15 games with a staph infection, had 11 points in 40 minutes of action, while Barnes finished with 19.
