The fate of professional basketball players is decided in the gym. Not during games when the lights shine brightest, though, but for those countless hours on the practice floor spent honing their craft. And in NBA 2K16‘s incredibly detailed and immersive MyCAREER mode, you’ll have the chance to prove that tired sports cliché – as long as off-court factors don’t get in the way, of course.
2K16’s MyCAREER takes users on the journey to global superstardom that begins in high school. Ever wanted to know what it’s like to have college recruiters fawning over your every move? MyCAREER offers that chance, continuing the road to the NBA with a – hopefully brief, right? – stop at the school of your choice. Beware, though: Distractions increase as fame does.
“The trials and tribulations that await you are ones you’ve never experienced before,” 2K says. But real NBA players have, and the ones who navigate them most seamlessly have the surest route to success. Did they pick the right school? Surround themselves with the right people? Hire the right agency? Those questions loom for all professional athletes, and yield sweeping influence long after they’re initially made. In MyCAREER mode, you’ll be the one tasked with making those difficult choices.
Once you finally make it, though, where do you go from there? Off days are crucial for all NBA players, from perspectives of both basketball and brand. Will you spend free time making public appearances and developing relationships with peers? Or improving weaknesses on the practice floor?
There’s no universal definition of success. In NBA 2K, you’ll decide how you define it – in championships, fame, or both.
