Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Roy Hibbert, which we told you was one of the sneakiest trades of NBA Free Agency. Hibbert will be an immediate upgrade to the Lakers’ defense, which was so bad last year that they gave up the second most points per possession, and opposing teams had the second highest effective field goal percentage against them as well.
According to Lakers beat reporter Mike Trudell, Hibbert slimmed down 16 pounds in order to be a key component of their defense, and to adjust to the league’s trend of smaller players.
Roy Hibbert changed his diet and told me he dropped 16 pounds from his playing weight last season, down from 283 to currently 267.

Part of Hibbert’s goal in dropping so much weight is to get a bit quicker and adapt to how the league has gotten smaller.
