Director Tate Taylor’s follow-up to his 2011 Oscar-nominated adaptation of The Help will be of the biopic variety, as he’s going to take on the Godfather of Soul in Universal Pictures’ Get On Up. The story of singer James Brown will star the man who also played Jackie Robinson in 42, Chadwick Boseman, as Variety first reported, and the movie will follow Brown’s meteoric rise to fame. Written by John Henry and Jez Butterworth (my new favorite name in the world, by the way), Get On Up is also produced by Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.
It’s safe to say that with this group of big names, this will be a pretty serious project, and Universal has set the release date for October 17, 2014, according to Deadline.
Okay, that’s all fine and dandy, but will it include the most important thing that Brown ever did in his career?
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
