Really, the cartoon is the perfect visual aid; dynamic, fun to watch, and easy to absorb. Vault-Tec knows this better than anybody, so they’ve created a valuable educational series for their dwellers to learn what makes them S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
Okay, okay, so this really Bethesda firing up the hype train for Fallout 4 and getting people who may not be completely familiar with the series and its quirks up to speed about how it comes together. Still, this is fun to watch not least for how note-perfect the animation is to Fallout‘s rich history of cheerful mascots and incongruous violence toward them, but also to see how certain enemies are rendered in that particular style.
That said, I am a little disappointed that the antiquated mechanic of only being able to keep so much stored on your person is being kept. It’s a holdover from the days of pen-and-paper gaming, and honestly, I’ve got to question how much realism should be involved in a game where you use power armor to murder mutant chameleons with a Gatling. It really doesn’t make any more sense than a cartoonish bag of holding; remember how Geralt in The Witcher III somehow didn’t collect movement penalties despite carrying around a freakin’ library?
But that’s a small complaint. Let’s watch Vault Boy get squished again!
