Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…
This Week’s Telltale Episode
The Walking Dead: Season Two – Amid The Ruins (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, July 22nd)
Warning! The above trailer contains some The Walking Dead: Season Two spoilers!
It’s the penultimate episode of Season Two of The Walking Dead, and it seems like things are slowing down just a little bit before things really hit the fan with Episode 5. That said, there still looks to be plenty of zombie killing and a sure to be dramatic birth scene in store for this episode!
This Week’s Puzzle Game
Micron (PC, Mac & Linux, July 23rd)
Previously exclusive to mobile platforms, Micron hits computers this week. Micron is a puzzle game in which you place various objects to deflect rhythmic balls of energy through mazes. Looks like a good brain-twister. Here’s the game’s Steam page.
This Week’s Non-Telltale Adventure Game
Gods Will Be Watching (PC, Mac & Linux, July 24th)
Gods Will Be Watching may have a stylish retro look, but it’s more in line with recent Telltale games in terms of gameplay. Rather than an emphasis on inventory puzzles, Gods Will Be Watching puts you in stressful situations and asks you to navigate various narrative and moral quandaries. Steel yourself, because you’ve got some stomach-churning decisions ahead of you. Here’s the game’s Steam page.
This Week’s Motion Control-Fest
Wii Sports Club (Wii U, July 25th)
Nintendo has been re-releasing Wii Sports in HD with added online play one sport at a time via the Nintendo eShop, but now you can buy the whole shebang on a single disc, which is probably how grandma and grandpa would prefer to have it.
Pick of the Week
Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty (PS4, July 22nd)
In a lot of ways the classic Oddworld games feel like predecessors of the high-concept indie puzzle platformers we’re awash in today, so it’s appropriate that the series is coming back to show the whippersnappers how it’s done. Oddworld New ‘N’ Tasty is a remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey, and in honor of the series’ legacy on Playstation platforms, New ‘N’ Tasty will be exclusive to PS4 for a limited time (the game will be coming for PC, Xbox platforms and Wii U later).
A solid week, particularly if you’re feeling a bit nostalgic for the Playstation era. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
