Sonic the Hedgehog turns 25 this year, and it seems as though Sega has some pretty big plans for the speedy chili dog connoisseur going forward. During an interview with international news site The World Folio, Sega’s president and CEO Hajime Satomi dropped the news that a Sonic movie is in the works for 2018…
“[We’re] currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018. As with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.”
A live-action and animation hybrid? Uh oh. Let us not forget the horrors unleashed the last time Sonic decided to start hanging out with humans.
His silver screen debut might not be the only major thing on the horizon for Sonic, as Sega recently posted this rather cryptic tweet.
The key lies with @madeon. Good luck. pic.twitter.com/iwpkUhXGp9

Sonic fans have of course been trying to decode what the image’s symbols could mean, and speculation is rampant they may point to some sort of new Sonic game in 2016, which would certainly make sense. So, get ready, hedgehog fans, it seems like we’re in for an attitude-packed couple years.
