The Mad Max franchise is relevant again in a big way, thanks to the amazing Mad Max: Fury Road, so let’s turn our eyes towards the Mad Max video game. Yes, there’s been a Mad Max video game in development for a few years. Thus far, we haven’t seen much of the game (there have reportedly been development issues), but we finally now have a full, meaty gameplay trailer, and the game looks pretty good.
It’s hard to say exactly where the Mad Max game fits in the overall franchise. Max isn’t voiced by Tom Hardy, or even designed to look particularly like him, but the game does feature the “war boys” from Fury Road, and it does reference places like Gas Town that were important in the movie. So, it’s sort of a tie in and sort of not? Oh well, the story doesn’t particularly matter because it looks like the game will deliver the things that matter… fast vehicles, brutal violence, huge explosions and miles and miles of dusty Australian Outback.
Mad Max arrives September 1 of this year. What do you folks think? Is the game looking like a worthwhile follow up to Mad Max: Fury Road?
