For the first time, DC Comics has acknowledged what we all knew to be true: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are more than friends. And we don’t mean BFFs or “gal pals” or “eternal friends” or any other euphemism used to downplay a romantic relationship between two women.
Harley and Ivy were confirmed to be in an open romantic relationship during a Twitter conversation involving Harley Quinn writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner. Here are a couple of the relevant tweets from the official DC Comics Twitter account, as pointed out by Kotaku:
Yes, they are Girlfriends without the jealousy of monogamy. @jpalmiotti @AmandaRantsAlot #HarleyQuinnChat https://t.co/n86jApADCi

When Harley falls in love, she falls in love hard and loyally no matter who they are. @jpalmiotti #HarleyQuinnChat https://t.co/c2NF6qJ5xf

Readers of Batgirl Adventures #1 knew this all along, as well as being clued in to how Harley Quinn is immune to Poison Ivy’s poison.
Strangely, a different tweet from that same conversation rehashed ye olde “gal pals” trope:
We love that they are the best friends ever. Ivy is Harleys rock. @AmandaRantsAlot #HarleyQuinnChat https://t.co/38Oc8SJJsa

Best friends. ETERNAL friends. Gal pals forever.
