“Watch the movie? Yeah, no thanks.”
Kate Mara was unfortunately sidelined as Sue Storm in Fantastic Four, which had a terrible opening weekend and may lose $60 million. In a recent interview with the Times, Mara admitted she hasn’t watched the movie yet, despite walking the red carpet for a premiere, because the many bad reviews left her feeling “a little bit gun-shy.”
Mara also said that she found director Josh Trank’s tweeted disavowal of the studio’s cut to be “highly disappointing,” although she seemed to like making the film:
“It was a tricky shoot, but you know… When you know when you’re shooting it that a film isn’t going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all.”
Yikes. That sounds as though bloggers were paying closer attention to problems on set than she was, but of course she has to be civil, no matter how terrible it was. A director could show up every day dressed as a lobster and throw sticks of butter at the actors, and they would have to smile through interviews while saying the director is a maverick genius who “really got a lot out of us.”
The Times also asked Mara about Jamie Bell (The Thing) because they’re rumored to be dating. She said they “had each other’s backs” during filming, adding:
“That’s the thing that makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we’ll ever make another one.”
Well, good news, Mara. The movie probably will get a sequel, and Tommy Wiseau has even offered to direct it.
