It’s been something of a small fan controversy that Lando Calrissian, the smoothest man in the galaxy, won’t be appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But Disney has been hinting Lando is still important to Star Wars, and one of the key architects of the franchise’s next act has more or less confirmed he’s on the way.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back among other beloved movies, weighs in on Lando:
Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie. But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form.
It’s especially interesting when paired with Billy Dee Williams’ comments on Lando we reported on earlier:
Yeah, people were pretty upset about it. But I uh, I may very well…I have a feeling I’m going to show up. There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage.
To me, all this adds up to Lando being a part of the anthology movies. It would make sense; as we noted up above, Disney is actually weaving Lando into the past of Star Wars more closely. And he’s a beloved character who fans want to see. Hey, I’ll take Lando as the mastermind of Rogue One over a Boba Fett origin any day.
